It was a hockey weekend

Yes, this weekend was indeed one for the ages. Despite losing to Boston University, the Riverhawks of Umass Lowell shocked hockey east and stunned Northeastern University to make it to the championship game of the hockey east conference. I must say as a advid fan of the schools hockey team, that the team played their hearts out and have absolutly nothing to be ashamed of. The team which was picked as the underdog in both games shocked the college hockey world and for that their fans are very grateful. There is little doubt in my mind that when the next season starts the chants of UML will echo again through the Tsongas arena and that when other teams look at the UMass Lowell Riverhawks, they will realize that they have a tough battle ahead.
As for the pro side, the New York Rangers split a pair of home games again Buffalo and Ottawa. From this point on in the season every point will be a fight and if the Rangers want a playoff spot, its time they step up and not give up any more bad goals and stop taking penalites. Also as a fan message to the team, SHOOT THE PUCK! We spend so much time passing around, trying to make a perfect play when in reality one does not exhist. Take the shot, and slam in the rebound if there is one.
As for the fact that it is the first day back from spring break and teachers are begining to seriously talk about the end of the semester, I am realizing that in the past week I become to accustomed to going to bed late and sleeping until past 10 am. It was truly a struggle to fall asleep last night and even more so to wake up in the morning. There were a few pieces of good news this past week, mostly that I got a new hockey jersey of my favorite player of all time, Adam Graves. It was an unexpected birthday present from my parents, even though they also bought me a new phone.

Why?

Its amazing, for the longest time I have resisited the urge to blog. Now, since sometime last week when I wrote my first, I have been continually ranting on the many topics which annoy me. Well today is no different, its the last day of class before spring break and for me at least. Two of my classes are cancelled for tomorrow and theres no chance that I will be coming all the way to Lowell for just one class. Things in life have been pretty boring if you don't pay attention to the way that the country is slowing going down the drain, thanks to the economy and the other many problems that plague our land. The plus side is that with all that is going on, I can still turn to sports to get me excited. The playoff race continues to heat up and the New York Rangers goaltender is just one win away from a Rangers and NHL record. I have to work tonight and that means that I wont get to see the game tonight which kind of sucks, but what can you do. As much as I would like to, I can not get into basketball, which means I could care less about what the Celtics did last night, o well. The plus side is that baseball spring training has started which means there will soon be nightly games on to watch...that should provide some relief from my boring life. I turn 23 on Saturday...I cant believe it...it seems like birthdays mean less and less to me not that I have passed 21...o well. I got to take a midterm now.

June, again?

Well it appears that spring may again be upon us. I am really getting sick of the weather. This weekend was beautiful, no rain, no snow and temps that you could go outside in a tee shirt in. YESTERDAY IT SNOWED! I am so sick of this stuff. I am all for enough snow for a day off now and then, but recently its just been annoying. Four inches of snow is just a pain in the neck, the first time of the year its pretty, now its just blackened with dirt and mud. To make matters worse, my favorite hockey team, the New York Rangers can not get their acts together for any winning streak longer than a couple of games. With the playoff hunt taking place and every point meaning more and more, its no wonder why I am so stressed out. I just can't wait for next week and the time off of school. I really need it right now. Its weird, I'm a senior and even though my workload isnt huge right now, I am feeling the stresses of what life will be like after college. My plan is to finish school up in December, but then what? I assume they,(parents, teachers) will want me to get one of those job things full time. That could be interesting. I think whats happening is that the safty blanket that we cover ourselves with for years is begining to be yanked off. O well, thats life and post college is just another thing we have to go through. I guess the only thing that we can do is to see what happens.

Hockey Weather.

Why does the weather keep changing? Like seriously, one day you can barely feel your face when you walk out the door, the next day I see people walking around school in shorts and tee shirts. Not that I am complaining about todays sudden warming, but just a few days ago, you could barely go outside without feeling like your nose was going to freeze off. I guess that good part of all this is that it is still hockey season and the New York Rangers handed my least favorite team, The New York Islanders a huge loss last night. With the trade deadline past and the final race for the playoffs in high gear every point the Rangers can earn brings them one step closer to the playoffs. Now, the Rangers have been taking a lot of crap lately about bring back the person who is probably the most hated player in the NHL, Sean Avery. I say that he is a great addition to the team. Yes, he runs his mouth and tends to be a bit of an instigator, but that is part of what hockey is. For the longest time there were goons that patroled the ice, and should they need to fight for their teammates, they were more than willing. Avery brings that attitude to the game and I really wish people would get off his back, especially Rangers fans. We need to remember that with him, or record is much better than we were without him, and in the end, with a push to the playoffs, we need him. I'm not going to say that he is going to fix all of the Rangers problems, but lets give him a chance and see where he can take them.

My First Blog

Hey, well this is my first time blogging. Lets see, here are the basics, my name is John, I'm turing 23 on the 14th and I am obviously a student at Umass Lowell. I am from New York where I lived for 21 years and no I am not a Yankee fan. I am a huge hockey fan and while I can watch almost any game and find entertainment in it, I am a "True Blue" New York Rangers fan and I am proud of it! My favorite players of all time is Adam Graves and Mark Messier.
In terms of my college life, I am a Criminal Justice major and political science minor. Out of school, I am addicted to the Simpsons, Family Guy and Futurama. I tend to watch The Daily Show almost every night, I feel that I can do this because I also read the New York Times on a regular basis. That way, I get the real news from the paper and plenty of other news from The Daily Show.

Here are two of the sites that I tend to go to constantly.
